today, we are at a historical moment, as we look back at the last 100 years of our movement and remember that it was young socialists who were amongst the first to fight nationalism and fascism in a time when this meant risking their lives; it was young socialist who fought for freedom and global solidarity by supporting the independence movements in former colonies. Through out these struggles the main principle guiding our comrades was and remains democratic socialism.

But if IUSY is to continue to lead the fight for change, we must continue to analyse ourselves and our goals. What will the next 100 years look like? How will we tackle new challenges? What is the future of our movement?

We have been an example of change in the past, we must debate change for our future.

Today we launch a debate on the future of our movement. We will use our 100th anniversary to debate our coming years, and our demands- beginning with this banner, and your hands, your views, your vision.

This will be a lengthy debate over the next two years, but it begins here, in the presence of our past and our future members.

Viva IUSY!
